This Week in Protesting...

We had a really good crowd today. I want all of you to know that I think you're an amazing bunch of people, so dedicated to doing whatever you can to bring our troops home. Many of you I have known for a long time, but I've also met a lot of wonderful new people who I never would have met if it wasn't for our protest. For that I am grateful, because in these troubled times it's easy to feel alone. Thanks to all of you, I don't anymore. I hope the same is true for you as well.

This week and last we were joined by some of the wonderful folks from the Michigan Emergency Committee Against War and Injustice. There seems to be a lot of interest in sending a contingent from our group to join their mass protest in Detroit next Saturday. Since the timing conflicts with our own protest I will remain here, but it would be great if we could have a sizable presence there as well. Our movement becomes stronger when we join with others in neighboring communities, and mecawi is a large active group that has been at this a long time. Check out their website here. I will post complete details, ride share information, etc. later, but do think about it and check back here. I would be thrilled if we could send a group to represent us.

So Tonight We Went to City Hall...

...and, as usual, Bill captured a good part of it on celluloid. We, and when I say we I really mean Mike McKeehan, brought before the Mayor and City Council of Wyandotte a resolution to end U.S. military action in Iraq. Mike worked countless hours to obtain over 1400 resident signatures in support of the resolution and made his (our) case most eloquently tonight at the City Council Meeting. It's late and I'm too exhausted to go into all the details at the moment, but suffice it to say it was a resounding success. Many thanks to Mike and everyone who stood with us tonight. The whole experience was quite something, and I'm still processing it. With that, I'll leave you with a few photos... (Click on any photo for a larger version)

Join The Young Turks ~ ENOUGH!

Click on the DFA link above and read about the ENOUGH! events started by The Young Turks radio program (1310am from 6am-9am Monday-Friday here in the Detroit area.) Our protest isn't listed there, for the moment anyway, because we meet on Saturdays and the national ENOUGH! rallies are on Sundays. And of course our protests are a little different because our purpose is to stand for an end to the U.S. Occupation of Iraq. The concept is the same, though: Meet for an hour at the same time each week in the town square with like-minded people, and stand up for what you believe in.

If you have friends or relatives in other states, pass it on and ask them to join a local group or start one of their own. If you know of anyone, anywhere, who would like to get involved but doesn't know where to start, get this information to them. It's simple, it's doable, and if enough of us participate, potentially very effective. We have to keep pushing back every way we can.
