A Little Something You Can Do...

...to feed the hungry. I found a website set up through The United Nations that gives us the opportunity to play a word game, and for each correct answer they receive a donation of 20 grains of rice that will go directly to needy people all over the world. The tool is set up for all skill levels so anyone can do it, and the really neat thing is that after a while you start learning a lot of new words and your skill level increases. It's fun and a bit addictive, but as habits go, it's not a bad one to have. I've already donated over 20,000 25,000 grains of rice. ~: )

UPDATE 12/12/07: I added the link to Free Rice to the list of Action Links/Organization Tools/Resources You Can Use on the right sidebar for easy access. Better yet, bookmark the site to remind yourself to play for a few minutes every day.
From their website:

FreeRice is a sister site of the world poverty site, Poverty.com.

FreeRice has two goals:

  1. Provide English vocabulary to everyone for free.
  2. Help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free.

This is made possible by the sponsors who advertise on this site.

Whether you are CEO of a large corporation or a street child in a poor country, improving your vocabulary can improve your life. It is a great investment in yourself.

Perhaps even greater is the investment your donated rice makes in hungry human beings, enabling them to function and be productive. Somewhere in the world, a person is eating rice that you helped provide. Thank you.

Here's the link to Free Rice.
