No End in Sight.
Eight months of protesting and here we are, still embroiled in the occupation of a country we should never have gone into in the first place, with the situation in the greater Middle East becoming more volatile by the day. It is with heavy heart that I reflect upon this past year, and a deep disappointment in our Democratic Congress. A year ago we had such high hopes that our criminal actions in Iraq would come to an end, that our "leaders" would find a way out of this deadly quagmire, and that we would restore some modicum of our country's honor in the world. They have failed us mightily, and there is no excuse they can give that will satisfy the voters who entrusted them with the majority to get us out of Iraq. Going by memory, I'm pretty sure the number of U.S. fatalities in Iraq was at just about 3000 at the beginning of this year. That means that nine hundred and one families have been devastated this year by a senseless death, and thousands more by horrific injuries. Much blood, on many, many hands.
And so we must continue to stand in opposition. We were happy this week to welcome several newcomers, some from very far away. We had new folks from Southgate, Wyandotte, Dearborn, Monroe, and even a visitor from Austin, Texas who just "had to stop." Welcome all, and please come again! I'm proud to note that we always have a respectable showing, no matter the weather, and I know that those of you who cannot make it due to the elements will be back, and that you are with us in spirit. I have high hopes that when the weather breaks we will have a protest the likes of which we have never seen. If everyone who has attended at least once were to come on a single day we would have hundreds...now wouldn't that be something?!
