A CALL TO ACTION!

Update at 7:40 pm: Well, we won this round, for the moment anyway. Harry Reid announced that they will table the FISA debate for now, and bring it up again after the holiday recess. That's a good thing. There's no need to ram this thing through right before vacation like they did in August. Make no mistake, the pressure we put on the senators made a big difference on how this played out. I tried to call Reid's office to say thanks and his mailbox was full. Oh yeah, he got the message all right ~ good job everyone! When this comes up again we will of course be paying close attention, but for the moment, pat yourself on the back and pencil one in the win column.
Thank you Senator Dodd!

Senate Switchboard ~
1 800 828 0498 ~ CALL NOW!

See the post below for more details. Pictures from Saturday's protest are below that have been bumped to the top of the page. Thank you for giving a damn!

And now, back to your regularly scheduled outrage. Carry on.

Peace,
Pam

Happening Now...

Tune in to C-Span 2 (Channel 41 for Wyandotte Cable viewers) to watch the Senate debate on S 2248, the bill that deals with warrantless wiretapping and gives the telephone companies retroactive immunity for helping the bush administration illegally spy on you. Senator Chris Dodd has pledged to filibuster the bill if it includes such immunity. Use the tool below to keep track of the votes and contact your Senators. I've already contacted Senators Stabenow and Levin to request that they join the filibuster, and I plan to call Leader Reid's office as well.

I've heard it said many times in Democratic and liberal circles, and even from principled conservatives, that bushco is shredding the Constitution. I've come to believe that it's more like they've poked hole after hole in it. Outright shredding would be too obvious. They think we won't notice if they randomly, brutally, pierce away at our freedoms, just a little at a time, until there is nothing left. Let it not be said that we remained silent. Call your Senators and tell them we're watching this closely. We have noticed, and what we have seen is not acceptable. Make the call.
