Best Seat in the House: Al Gore and Barack Obama at the Joe

Monday June 16, 2008 ~ Detroit, Michigan
A friend of mine, Anna, who is a professional photographer, shot the best pictures I've seen of the event at Joe Louis Arena. She has generously allowed me to share a few of them with you. The photos below are proprietary, so no stealing! Enjoy...
Thanks Annabelle!

Different Location for Saturday June 28, 2008, Just This Once...

Because Cruisin' Downriver is happening this weekend we have decided to move our protest location for Saturday, as we did last year, to the corner of Biddle and Eureka, near the fountain. It was kind of nice last time to do something a little different, and as I recall, we were joined by some new folks who have since become a regular part of the group. Same time, 12 o'clock noon. Bill will be there with the signs, and someone will go to Fort Street to spread the word for anyone who shows up there. Please pass this information along to anyone in the group who might not see this. See you Saturday!

Protesting With Two Members of Congress...

Now if we could just get the other 433 of them to stand with us! Thanks and a warm welcome to Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick and Congressman John Conyers, a protest regular, for acknowledging what we are doing and for spending some time with us. We hope they will take our message back to Washington, where Congress has just authorized another $165 BILLION in funding for Mr. Bush's Wars. This has just got to stop. My humble thanks to all of you who show up week after week, in the heat of summer and in the dead of winter, when there are plenty of other things you could be doing. We won't forget and we won't give up.

Some Days It's Just So Damned Depressing To Be A Democrat...

What he's thinking:
Gee, in my wildest dreams I never thought I'd
get the
whole enchilada...thanks Nance!
Say goodbye to the rule of law. I'm sure you've all heard about the FISA vote in the House today, where the folks who brought you "IMPEACHMENT IS OFF THE TABLE" have outdone themselves yet again. They voted to hand bush and the telecoms a free pass for the illegal, warrantless wiretapping and interception of all your communications. They weren't defending the Constitution, they weren't looking out for us, and they weren't doing a damn thing to reign in this criminal president from his eight year power grab. They were protecting their corporate masters, those big donors they have such a nice little arrangement with. Way to go, Congress. Here's the rollcall vote. Read it and weep. And remember the names on the yea list - it will be our job to purge each and every one of them from the peoples' house. Maybe not this cycle, or the next, but eventually they need to go. Note to Pelosi and Hoyer: there is no excuse for this. None. The only oath you took was to protect and defend the Constitution. There wasn't a word in there about covering for your buddies or covering your butts. Thomas Jefferson is spinning in his grave. Again.

A Sunday Morning Void ...

58 year old Tim Russert, NBC News Washington Bureau Chief and long time moderator of Meet the Press, passed away suddenly this afternoon while working on his Sunday show. He was respected by most, and while I occasionally threw something at the tv while he was on, it wasn't often, and I usually appreciated his work. My condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues, who find themselves in the excruciating position of covering this breaking news while dealing with their own grief. Tim had just returned from a vacation with his family in Italy in celebration of his son Luke's graduation from Boston College. I'm sure the memories of that trip will be cherished forever by his wife and son. And I'm sorry that he didn't get to finish out this election season, the thing he loved most of all after his family.
Timothy John Russert, Jr. May 7, 1950 - June 13, 2008

Rest in Peace, Mr. Russert
