Photos from Saturday...

We had a great crowd on Saturday, and a lot of support from passersby. Is it just me, or did it seem like we had even more honks and positive feedback than usual? People are absolutely sick of this war, and overwhelmingly support bringing our troops home. Still, the media has been largely silent on what is happening in Iraq, other than to inject the occasional "The Surge is Working" meme. What they fail to mention more often than not, though, is that the "surge" was designed to provide a window of security in which to allow political progress among the Iraqi government. That didn't work out so well. Or maybe it did. The Iraqis are now calling for us to get the hell out, which puts a bit of a wrinkle in the McBush doctrine. Could be interesting to see how this plays out.
I mentioned a few weeks ago that the number of fatalities had not stayed the same in all the weeks we've convened, and then this past week that was actually the case. 4,113 two weeks in a row. It was good not to have to change our sign for once, and to be thankful that we didn't lose another hero during the week. Still, there have been fatalities since Saturday, and the violence, and thus the casualties, in Afghanistan have increased. No matter how you look at it, things are not going well in the Middle East. All the more reason for us to press on. Below are this week's pictures...thanks billyb and Nancy!

Dissenters, Watch Your Backs...

Yet who's to say that 61 year old librarian Carol Kreck isn't an ardent Bush/McCain supporter? You really wouldn't know
from the sign that got her tossed from a public forum and a court date, now would you?

Do you know where your First Amendment rights are?

Celebrate Your Independence...

4th of July Words - http://www.4thofjulytext.com
Never forget that we must continue to defend that document penned so many years ago, perhaps never more than in our own time. 100 years from now, let it to be said that we were the ones who preserved our way of life, that which was envisioned by our Founding Fathers. What will you do?Have a safe and happy holiday weekend everyone!

Protesting on the Other Side of Town...

Different corner, same purpose. If we were in it for the aesthetics, we'd meet by the fountain every week...it's a lovely part of the city to hang out in. But alas, our goal is visibility, so next week we will be back in our usual spot on Fort Street. Here are this week's photos. Thanks to everyone who made it, and apologies if you didn't get the memo about the change.

Best Seat in the House: Al Gore and Barack Obama at the Joe

Monday June 16, 2008 ~ Detroit, Michigan
A friend of mine, Anna, who is a professional photographer, shot the best pictures I've seen of the event at Joe Louis Arena. She has generously allowed me to share a few of them with you. The photos below are proprietary, so no stealing! Enjoy...
Thanks Annabelle!
